Always free, the Center has mounted over 175 exhibitions dedicated to preserving the traditional artistic practices of book-making, as well as exploring and encouraging contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object. The center also offers classes and workshops but these are not free.

Famously known for its “18 miles of books”, Strand Bookstore sells cheap used books and lots of books for $1 on its sidewalks.

This organization offers a list of fantastic free (and not free) events in NYC. There are too many to even list on our site! Events range from bird watching, walking tours, family activities, lectures, yoga, book readings, and animal tracking. A definite must to check out when looking for something fun to do.

This organization offers free workshops, vegan meals, bike repairs, reading groups, and more each month. Freeganism is a total boycott of the capital economic system, which they believe is unethical by avoiding to buy anything to the greatest degree they are able (e.g. dumpster diving, recycling, squatting, etc.).
