NYC Department of Consumer Affairs offers free tax filing and other assistance. Your income and number of dependents must qualify you for this assistance. Locations in every borough for classes and workshops. They also offer counseling and a hotline.
Food Bank for New York City offers the Tax Assistance Program which provides low- to moderate-income New Yorkers with free and low cost tax preparation services as well as information on how to access the various entitled credits. This program provides a significant step from food poverty toward self-sufficiency. New Yorkers are eligible for free tax assistance if they earn $45,000 or less with dependents, or $20,000 or less without dependents. There are also other eligibility requirements as well.

The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club offers free canoe, bike, and self-guided waterfront tours by the shorelines of Gowanus, Red Hook and DUMBO. During the past season, over 1,000 individuals participated in their programs with over 2,000 trips on the Gowanus Canal. As people experience and enjoy the waterfront through our programs, they become advocates for its revitalization.

Kids can join summer camping where 3,000 children get a break from city life, each summer. The Fresh Air camps are located on The Fund’s Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill (65 miles north of NYC). Sharpe Reservation has 2,300 acres of beautiful land with lakes, ponds, streams and hiking trails through the woods.
Or kids can stay at a host family’s home through the The Friendly Town Program. Through this program, close to 5,000 children visit volunteer host families each summer in rural and suburban communities. Children stay for two weeks or more in 300 Friendly Towns across 13 Northeastern states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.

Free for children under 36 inches tall with a paid adult May – September. The amusement park contains rides, concessions, face painting, balloon sculpting, live entertainment, and interactive activities. It pretty crazy to see these rides in the middle of the park with the skyscrapers in the background!
Email this post Tickets are free but you must pick them up starting at noon on the day of the concert. Two tickets per person- first come, first served. While there is always a line for tickets, very rarely have supplies run out before concert time. The goal is to present great musicians in concerts that are free to the public in spaces that are good for both the music and the audience.
